The A/P Council hosts a number of guests at its meetings over the course of the year. Here you will find specific information on those speakers, their topics, and any additional information provided to those in attendance.
This presentation will include a discussion on the categories of workplace violence and indicators of workplace violence as it applies to the university campus. A special emphasis will be placed on responding to threats and what to do if you find yourself in an active shooter situation.
Aaron Woodruff has 10 years of law enforcement experience, and currently serves as the acting third shift commander with Illinois State University Police Department. Aaron has extensive experience working in both patrol and investigation divisions, and is currently coordinating crime prevention programs for the university. Aaron received his Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration from Western Illinois University in 1997, and graduated from the University of Illinois Police Training Institute in 1998.

In the past five years, media and public awareness of issues of college student mental health has been unprecedented. The tragic incident at Virginia Tech brought the media spotlight onto the issue in a new way, raising both realistic concerns and irrational fears about the lives of students who struggle with mental illness. In this program, we will examine the national trends in college student mental health, as well as the trends at Illinois State University, and discuss the role of all faculty and staff in contributing to a community of care and concern for students.
Sandy Colbs has been the Director of Student Counseling Services since August of 2001. Prior to her work at ISU, she served as Associate Director of the Counseling Center at Georgia State University, and as a Staff Psychologist at University Counseling Services at Virginia Commonwealth University. Sandy received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology and completed her predoctoral internship at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Jim Terfruchte is the staff psychiatrist, ISU Student Health Service, 7/07 through present. Previously in Private Practice of Psychiatry in Dallas, Texas, and Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Board Certified in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Vice President for Student Affairs Steve Adams joined us November 8th. He gave an overview of the long range housing and dining plans, details on the new student recreation center, and more.

The A/P Council was joined by Ira Schoenwald, Associate Vice President of Human Resources at our October 25th meeting where he discussed the concept of broadbanding. A question was posed with regards to the availability of public computer workstations for use by visitors to Illinois State's campus.
